The past few years the
Trans-Pecos region of West Texas has received more rain than it has in the
last ten years. The genetics of these Pronghorn are some of the best in North
America and the region with continued good moisture will keep producing
exceptional bucks season after season.
Our exclusive properties for
Pronghorn covers Brewster, Presidio, Jeff Davis and Pecos counties in West
Texas encompassing over 250,000 acres of private land on nine different
ranches. These |
| particular hunts are conducted safari style covering
extremely large tracts of land, with some being in excess of 100 square
miles in size. Glassing
over numerous herds of antelope daily is the objective looking for a
mature buck with good length, mass and prongs. Clients can expect to see good animal densities on this hunt
and seeing 100-200 antelope daily is common, with about a third being
bucks. We are very selective
which bucks are harvested because the difference in an average Pronghorn
versus a trophy is a matter of a few inches. This particular hunt has had 100% success on bucks in the |

|
| 14” to 16 ½” range, and although not common, a handful pushing the 17”+ have
been harvested the past few years. Elevations
are 4000 feet to 4500 feet on most of our antelope leases with
temperatures in October ranging from 30F to 85F.

We have a first class chuck
wagon cook on site where we base our camp and a taxidermist on site to
properly handle fleshing and salting of capes during your hunt.
Clients typically stay in a comfortable motel, which is only a
15-minute drive from our base camp, and have all meals at ranch location. Desert Safaris’ Pronghorn hunts have been featured on Texas
Trophy Hunters (2003) and Cabela's Outfitters Journal (2005) television
shows.

Unlike most Western states, in
Texas there is no application or drawing for your Pronghorn tag since
Desert Safaris purchases them directly from the individual private
landowners. If you’re
looking for a great hunt at a good value, look no more.
Permits are limited, so early bookings are advisable to secure your
hunt.

"I have hunted pronghorn almost every year since
the mid-1960's, and Hunter Ross and his Desert
Safaris showed me the finest herd of pronghorns I
have ever seen. In numbers they matched the best of Wyoming.
In quality they matched the best of New Mexico. What I have never
seen before is pronghorn
that were as calm and obviously unhunted as these
West-Pecos pronghorns. I didn't expect anything like
this in West Texas, and I will be back."

2006 season hunt facts
We had an absolute banner year for Pronghorn during
our 2006 season, being the best one on record for Desert Safaris to date.
We hosted 47 guided hunts and harvested 47 antelope with a 14 ¾ average.
Randall Pence of Ruger firearms took our largest buck to date harvesting a
17 ¾” monster that scored 86 BC on opening day. We had 5 other clients
take animals over 80 inches and all others averaged in the 74 to 76 BC
class. We had numerous outdoor writers from Peterson’s hunting, Outdoor
Life and American Hunter magazines featuring our hunt during the season
along with Ruger firearms, Surefire Flashlight Co, Nikon Optics and
Hornandy Ammunition.
